Acquaintances of a Small Winner
This was my first composition.
I wrote it in stages and put it together when I was 35.
A little late to get started writing perhaps, and it shows. I took note book pages and scraps of paper and edited it all on to a typewriter during the days immediately after Hurricane Andrew. We had no power in the house so the old manual worked out well. I later scanned the copies onto my first computer.
This essay is about my mentors- my everyday heroes. They whisper in everything I write.
